Opinion needed - to sp1 or not to sp1

Hi, I am new to WindowsXP following the death of my beloved windows98 -
nonetheless, I have read much about the occasional problems had when sp1 is
applied. I like the fast speed of my new computer, so I am hesitant to apply
sp1 - perhaps waiting for sp2. Any suggestions or thoughts in this?

Install it. Problems with it are few and far between, but get
more publicity than the many success stories. I've installed it
on lots of machines and never had a single problem.

I run Windows XP Pro and have been strongly advised that

in this day and age the wise thing to do is download every
critical update and run every kind of virus thingey
possibley: I have ZoneAlarm (free) for a firewall; Norton
AntiVirus and just bought SpyHunter. I also go to a
website called www.antivirus.com and run their FREE tool
called HouseCall. The general concensus these days is we
can't be too careful.... so download it!
