Frontpage 2000 sp3 running on Windows 98. User tries to open web. Types in
their url and hits enter and gets the username and password dialog box.
Types in the username and password and hits enter but it will not accept it.
Put it in again and it comes to another username/password dialog box that
says this operation requires author permissions on (websiteurl):80

I checked the webserver and checked the server extensions, recalc'd web. I
tried logging into his site on my system (WinXp FP2k3) and it worked fine.
Also tried logging into his site on our Mac with FP 1.0 and had no problem.

From the users computer I tried logging in as administrator and still got
the same error. I do get this error in the security log on the webserver:

Event Type: Failure Audit
Event Source: Security
Event Category: Account Logon
Event ID: 681
Date: 12/16/2003
Time: 4:13:10 PM
User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
Computer: NEPTUNE
Description:
The logon to account: TOM ABERLE
by: MICROSOFT_AUTHENTICATION_PACKAGE_V1_0
from workstation: TOM
failed. The error code was: 3221225572

The users workstation is name TOM but I am not sure where it is trying to
get te logon to account TOM ABERLE from.

And I am getting this error in the application log on the webserver:

Event Type: Warning
Event Source: FrontPage 4.0
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1000
Date: 12/16/2003
Time: 3:57:42 PM
User: N/A
Computer: NEPTUNE
Description:
Microsoft FrontPage Server Extensions:
http://www4.tfb.com - Error #e0024 Message: Getting SID's account name
failed.

It seems to be just this users computer that we can't login on but we
reinstalled Frontpage then installed SP1a and SP3 but still get the same
issue. Hope someone has an idea about this. And yes the users username is
setup on the website permissions with full administrator, author and browse
permissions

Try searching TOM's ahrd disk for .web files, and
deleting them all.

You may also need to delete any Network Neighborhood
shortcuts that point to the same Web.
