We have an Outlook 2003 user who receives the following error: "the
operation failed" anytime a he tries to delete a message. No other
information is given with the error. We are running Exchange 2003. He
can log in through the outlook web interface and delete messages. It's
possible that this began occurring after a power outage. Any
suggestions?

Has the user tried running Detect and Repair? How about scanpst.exe?

Detect and repair didn't help. I ended up deleting the local .ost file
and this solved the issue. This .ost file was pretty large (1.1GB),
does this cause any problem.

If it was left over from an OL 2002 installation, it might, since it may
have been in the old ANSI format.

Actually the problem returned after some time (probably after the
complete ost file had been retransferred to the users computer). I ran
scanpst on the local ost file and it had errors that I had it repair
but this did not solve the problem. I then setup his autoarchive and
archived quite a bit of stuff and this seems to have solved the problem.
