"Operating System Not Found"

D

Dell Christopher

HP Pavilion notebook
WinXP Home

When trying to boot the system, I got a black screen with the message
"Operating System Not Found". I then used the reinstallation CD and
reloaded the operating system. Everything was fine for a couple days and
then, when restarting, I got the OS Not Found message again. This is very
perplexing!

If anyone has any ideas on how to troubleshoot this problem, I would be very
grateful. Thanks!

Hi Dell,
Your HD may be is Dead, why you didn't look for any Error when you are loged
in to see how serious it is?.
Did you try the CD trick again.
Try and see if no luck buy a new HD and Clean install will be your Option.

did you format christopher before reloading xp onto your machine?
the easiest way to get around this error if it works is to boto from xp cd
hit f2 for system recovery then type fixboot and fixmbr this should fix the
partition information on your hard drives.

if this doesnt fix it, it sounds as ifour hard disk is on the way out ..

Cheers

Make sure you don't have any usb memory keys inserted. Also no
floppies., etc...

Thanks for the advice, Sean.

I don't remember seeing any option to type anything more than one letter
when booting from the reinstallation CD. As I recall, there were several
options to walk me through the OS install (e.g. type L for this, C for that,
etc.). Am I missing something here?
