I have installed a slave drive on my computer, when I restart my computer I
get the following message; Operating system not found. All the connections
seem to be ok. Am I missing something?

Are you sure you set the jumpers to slave? Did the BIOS detect it? Is it
partitioned and formatted?

Have you set the hard drives' (both the salve's and the master's)
jumper switches to the correct settings for your specific cabling
configuration?

All I did was attach the slave plug, which is just below the master plug into
my new/used driver. I'm not too sure on how to set the jumpers to slave. The
BIOS I'm assuming didn't detect the new drive. In order for my computer to
run properly I have to remove it. Any more help would be appreciated. Thanks

Look on the top panel of the hard drive itself. Most drives have the
various jumper settings illustrated. The jumpers themselves are
usually located on the back of the drive, adjacent to the power and
data cable sockets.

The choices for jumper settings will usually be:
- Single or stand-alone drive
- Master drive with slave present
- Slave drive
- Cable select

The first two (Stand-alone and Master drive with slave present) are
the same on some brands of hard drives.

Note that you also need to check the jumper settings on your existing
hard drive and you will probably have to remove it from the case in
order to to this. You will need to determine if your existing drive
is using "cable select" or not, and if it is not then you need to see
if it is one of the brands that uses a different jumper setting when
there is a slave drive present.

And when you plug the data cable into the slave drive make certain
that it is oriented correctly. The edge of the data cable with the
colored stripe (red usually) must go to pin 1 of the drive connector,
which is normally the edge closest to the power connector.

Good luck
