lsass.exe shutdowm related to slave hard drive

I am having basically the same problem as the other lsass.exe posts except I
only started to see it while trying to add a new slave drive. I'm running XP
home SP2 and have all the latest Microsoft updates, etc. Also, I have no
detectable sasser or other viruses. I have no issues when running my system
with the 2 original hard drives, but when I installed a new slave and
attempted to go through the formatting, I started getting the
"C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe' terminated unexpectedly with status code
-1073741819' message. If I disconnect the slave drive completely and use
just my original boot drive I get the same message, but with a different a
different code "C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe terminated unexpectedly with
status code - 2147483645". Both ways, when I log in, none of my desktop
icons appear and the task bar also changes appearance. Lastly, when I
reconnect my original slave drive the problem disappears and everything
returns to normal.
Any suggestions would be appreciated as I have not figured out how to keep
everything working so I can add the new drive and copy my boot drive onto it.

So what Anti-Virus did you scanned your Computer with and where you get this
Hard Drive which you want to install as a slave from?.
The Slave drive could be infected/contaminated and every time you want to
perform the format option you been blocked.
Are you connected to the Internet while trying to do this operation?.
Scan for malwares and scan the slave Drive before attempting to format and
see if the sacn will come clean.
Open a Run Command and type in this:
notepad %windir%\KB835732.log click [OK]

Here are some tips to try:
1. Start Recovery Console, and then type the number that corresponds to the
installation that you want.
2. Type the local Administrator password for the computer.
3. Type the following command:
copy c:\windows\system32\dllcache\lsass.exe c:\windows\system32\lsass.exe
Note If you receive a "File Not Found" error message when you run this
command, you must copy the Lsass.exe file from a working computer to a floppy
disk. Or, you can extract the file from a service pack and then copy the file
to a floppy disk. If you do this, type the following command:
copy a:\lsass.exe c:\windows\system32\lsass.exe
4. Restart the computer in Safe Mode.
