Harddisc MIA

My second(slave) hard disc drive is missing in action. I can't find it on
mycomputer or load any programs installed on it. This happened after I
changed my virtual memory settings to "System managed size". This dive was
partitioned and I had a seperate partition for virtual memory and a partition
for programs and MP3s. I set my partition for system managed size as well as
my C: drive for system managed size. I restarted my computer and it froze
while trying to load windows. I reset my computer and it loaded fine...
except now I am missing my slave hard disc and I dont know how to get it
back. Restarting again didn't help.

I have Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 with service pack 2.

Well, first step would be to run drivemgmt.msc, and see what shows up. Your
drive may show as 'uninitilized' and would require repartitioning to recover.
If it does not show at all, I would suspect some physical problem, and woould
look at the BIOS setup for the presence of the drive.

Thank you for your reply. I ran diskmgmt.msc because drivemgmt.msc didn't
work. I assume it's the same thing, but you know what happens when you
assume. It only listed my CDROM, DVDROM, C:, and partitioned D:(recovery).
So I guess I will open my machine and look to see for frays, burns,
connection problems, and other obvious physical problems? I dont know bios
but I guess I can look on the internet and learn. Any suggestions as what my
next step should be?

It fixed itself! I turned it off and unplugged it to look at the wires and
the connections. After it got the side back on I powered it back up and it
was there. Ghost in the machine? Lol, I dont know, I'm just glad its
working again. Thanks for your knowlage and help.
