Opening Word & Excel files

When I open word & excel files via shortcuts saved to the desktop it takes 10
- 30 secs. If I open the application first then select the file they open
immediatley. Any ideas??

That's normal behavior,
however you may want to put "Office" in your startup folder

and how long does it take to open the application first?
