opening word and excel documents

I upgraded my windows 98 version to windows xp home. NOw
my documents will not open. I get a message "___.doc is
not a valid Win32 application". What can I do to correct
this problem?

THe problem is that the file association for *.doc files is not yet
defined. This is because Word and Excel, for whatever reason, is not
installed. You can fix this probelm simply by digging out the CD for
Office that you have, and re-install it. It will fix the registary
setttings and refresh the files and all will be ok.
