Definitely Word 2003. I sownloade word viewer which showed the same tiny
rectangles.

I have a similar problem. Word 97 files will open but all characters are
displayed as a square.
I installed the converter and tried to open using word 97 but the error
message said "the file is not the right file type". Also, the icon is
displayed with the word icon so it looks like the application recognizes the
file. Any suggestions?
