If I try to open task manager.....or msconfig....or...any downloaded
program....the opening page just flashes on the screen and then disapears. I
use winxp pro....lotsa memory etc....and tried Norton...Avg...Panda...etc to
see if I have a virus. I run SpySweeper...Search and Destroy...etc...but to
no avail. I get a window popping up telling me have a prorgram by the name
of "Hot as Hell" running in my memory. How do I get rid of that.??...also I
have a virus that keeps popping up that says the virus is in my system 32
files...and the antivirus asks if I want it repaired....I say yes....it says
its repaired...but everytime I boot my computer...it keeps coming back..
Frustrated isnt the word....
thanks...

Do all scans for malware with updated tools in Safe Mode. To get to Safe
Mode, repeatedly tap the F8 key as the computer is starting up. This
will get you to the correct menu. If you only did online virus scanning
and do not have a current version antivirus (not earlier than 2004)
installed on your hard drive, use TrendMicro's Sysclean in Safe Mode.

TrendMicro's Sysclean is an extensive antivirus tool which has the
advantage of not needing to be installed. It requires two parts - the
scanning engine and the virus pattern files. Delete all Temporary and
Temporary Internet Files before running the program.

1. Create a new folder on your Desktop or the C: drive named something
useful like "Sysclean".
2. Go here and download the two parts of the program to that folder:

http://www.trendmicro.com/download/dcs.asp - Sysclean
http://www.trendmicro.com/download/pattern.asp - virus pattern files

The pattern files will be zipped - extract them with your unzipper (like
WinZip) or if you have XP, you can just open the folder. You need to
put the extracted files in the Sysclean folder you made.

3. Restart your computer in Safe Mode. Get into Safe Mode by repeatedly
tapping the F8 key as the computer is starting up to get to the proper
menu.
4. Go to the Sysclean folder you made and double-click on sysclean.com.
Start the scan. After the scan is finished, look at the log. You may
need to make a note of where any viruses were found if they were not
able to be removed so you can manually delete them.

Once you have done your scan with Sysclean, get and install a
full-featured av, update its definitions, and do a thorough scan in
Safe Mode.

Then continue your cleaning by scanning with Ad-aware and Spybot S&D in
Safe Mode. Make sure you have the most current versions of those
programs and that their definitions are updated.
