Opening programs

I cannot open most of my program files, either from the
Desktop or the Start menu. When I 'right' click on the
files, I get 'Scan for Viruses' in the top menu box that
usually says 'Open'. Can you help reset something so these
files will open?

Try the .lnk (shortcut) fix from MVP Doug Knox. Go to www.dougknox.com, look
under WinXP fixes/File Association Fixes.
