Opening programs

All my programs open in notepad. How do I change the default settings for all
my programs to run instead of open in notepad? When I right click on the icon
there is no option to "open with...".
 
Try holding down the "Shift" key when right clicking. 8)

The holding down shift didn't work. But I think my problem is that .exe files
are opeing in notepad, how do I switch that setting so that the program just
runs when I try to open it.

Hey the support you sent looked good, but I changed that setting, but only my
documents and those types of files have an open with... option when right
clicked, my programs don't. As I'm thinking I wouldnt even know what program
to chose to run my other programs with if even had the open with... option,
so I feel like there is a different setting that needs to be changed. Thanx
for your help this far, if you can understrand my gibberish and have an
answer please send it asap.

Well the .exe files I am talking about are like firefox.exe or aol.exe,
regular programs that I cant run, they all open in notepad, including my
volume and system restore jut to name a few. I don't want them to open in
notepad.
