opening ppt 2000 files in 2003 results in blank slides

We are in the process of migrating all of our files to 2003. When opening
presentations in 2003 (that had been originally created in 2000),
occasionally a slide will show up blank. Here's what has been tried:
1. Opened 2000 file in 2003 as "read only" then attempted to "save as" in
now location. Error message (error accessing). Hit "ok" and tried "save as"
changing file name and location. Same error message.
2. Hit "ok" and tried "save as" to previous version (ppt 97-2003 & 95
presentation); got this warning: Saving this file ... will remove any
restrictions ... may significantly increase size of file. Do you want to save
....? Clicked "yes."
3. Got this message: error accessing ^0. Hit "ok" and found saved file
(T3p M5 v97-03 v95).
4. Opened this "previous version" in 2003. Window appreared briefly showing
animation of ppt icons transferring to a new folder; file opened on screen.
On thumbnails, several slides were blank.
5. Did "save as" to create a 2003 file and was warned: [file] may containe
features that are not compatible with the PowerPoint 95 presentaiton format.
I fyou save the presentation in this format, some feature my be lost. Do you
.... save in this format? Clicked "yes."
5. Thumbnails for this new 2003 file identical to older version thumbnails,
same slides are blank.
6. Tried a new 2000 file; able to "save as" successfully but one slide was
blank.
7. Tried opening a 2000 file directly as "read only" and as "copy" same
slide came up blank in all (with no error message or warning).
8. Opened up two other files and "saved as" with no problems; they had 17
and 67 slides respectively.
9. Tried replacing unwanted blank with corresponding slide from original
2000 file. With the 2003 file opened, tried Insert>Slide from File. That
slide appeared blank in the "insert slide from file" window, without even
opening the original 2000 file in 2003. Tried the same "insert "slide"
procedure on the non-upgraded computer, had no problem inserting same slide
into another 2000 file. It showed up just fine in the window.
NOTE: Slides with problems were equation editor slides; however, other
equation editor slides in the same file opened fine!
Sorry for this long message, but wanted to be precise.

Have you installed SP1 for Office? If not do it now as PowerPoint 2003 was
broken out of the box.

IT got right on it and also installed SPs for Acrobat 7 while they were at it
(we print to Acrobat for our course books). Seems to be working just fine
now! Thanks a bunch.
