OPENING OUTLOOK ATTACHMENT ERROR MESSAGE - OPERATION FAILED

it2

Just recently I have encountered the strangest error message when
trying to open an outlook mail attachment. They were mainly .zip, .xls
and some media files. The very same day that I received .xls email
attachments and could open them I also received moments later .xls
attachments that gave me the error message OPERATION FAILED.

I got advice to close and reopen outlook but it never solved the
problem. I have discovered that in order to open the attachments I
have to reboot the server. Sometimes I have to reboot several times
before I can read the attachments. It doesnt seem to affect all the
outlook users.

Can anybody shed some light on this for me as I have read up on the www
and only found an article relating to Norton Antivirus. We use Trend
Officescan.

You ask about my outlook configuration. I don't know. What is it, or
where do I look to get this information?

We use microsoft exchange server 2000 & Outlook 2003. I don't use
cached exchange mode, because recently all of a sudden my emails werent
coming thru. The server folder showed that I had 50 emails, but my
offline folder showed only 25. I had to reboot the server sometimes to
get my emails.

I did try that. Still gives me the operation failed error messge. I
started having problems with my exchange server and outlook a while
back. My messages were lying in my exchange server folder, but my
offline folder showed much less. So I tried outlook express and read
my emails that way. Even the ones that said operation failed whn
opening an attachment. And ever since then my outlook has been giving
me more problems. What do you suggest? Should I re-install my
outlook. I have more problems with outlook than with outlook express.
I don't use cached mode in outlook because of the synchronisation
problem between server and offline folders. This was happening to a
few people, but not everyone. GREMLINS?
