I have been given a CD-R that contains copies of an 'Outlook Office Data'
file and 'archive Office data' file from someone else's computer. I want to
view the files but I do not want any of the data from the CD imported or
mixed in with my personal computer. If I use the File>Open>Outlook Data File
tool in the file menu, will all the new data import into my computer or not?
For example I do not want this person's emails mixed in with my emails?
Also, would I use Outlook to open the "archive Office data" file?

Copt to hd, any location, do not overwrite any existing pst.
Ensure read only is off (File properties)
Then In OL File/open/data File ..browse to location
Same procedure for Archive - its just another pst file

DL,
Thanks for your reply, i think that helps me with the first issue, how to
open the file. But what about my concerns about whether the Outlook Data
will mix in with my own emails in my inbox, etc. I do not want this other
person's 2 years worth of emails mixed in with my own inbox. Please explain
how to keep the other outlook and archive data separate from my own. I have
never looked at my own archive data, so I am sort of in the dark about how it
works. Thanks for your help.

Its just another Personal Folder, with its own Inbox etc
You can open multiple Personal Folders in OL. The contents of the folders
will not mix with any other - unless the user copies from one to another.

By default OL names the pst, outlook.pst, archive.pst, outlook.backup.pst ,
the later if you are using the MS Outlook Backup addin.

Ensure you do not overwrite any existing pst, when you copy other users
pst's. The pst's can be placed anywhere on your HD. Suggest you creat a
Folder, eg Bobsmail, copy the pst's there give them meaningfull names, eg
Bobsoutlook.pst etc.

Then Start OL File/open/data file (Personal Folders) browse to this location
and open.
Sometimes the name shown on the OL Folder List doesnt carry over ie it just
shows as Personal Folders if this is the case identify the new Personal
Folder, properties, rename.

If you need to move anything among the psts do not use import, copy or drag
and drop
