Opening new IE windows

Ok, I know that if I right click on a link I can get it to open in a new
window, but how can I set IE to do that automatically when I click on a link,
instead of having to right click?

We are working on a mainframe that operates in windows, so when it changes
the screen i'm working on, it messes me all up.

At this time we can't upgrade to IE 7 yet, not until the IT dept makes sure
all of our applications work with it, so I'm hoping someone knows the answer
to this.

You can't.
Try a middle click (or clicking the mouse wheel, not rotating it).

For IE7 questions please see:

In a newsreader:
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.internetexplorer.general

On the web:

SHIFT + click your link.

Or...use File...New...Window to open some "spare" windows. Then left click
and hold the link, drag it down to another IE icon on your taskbar, wait for
that window to open, drag up into the "new" window and release - the link
will open in that window.
