Opening MS AntiSpyware creates Dell error message pop-ups

I am using MS AntiSpyware v. Beta 1.0.615
Every time I open MS Anti-spyware by clicking on the tray icon, I first get
this message window:
"Please wait while Windows installs Back-up Dell Installed programs". Upon
cancelling this window, I get: "The feature you are trying to use is on a
CD-ROM or other removable disc that is not available...." I have to cancel
both several times before the program starts. I also get the same pop-ups
when accessing some of the features in the program Advanced section. Other
than this, the program seems to work as designed. This is very annoying and
time consuming. Anyone help on how to configure to stop it? I have
re-downloaded and re-installed the program with no change.
I have a Dell laptop 8100, Windows XP Pro.

Hello HHdHeel,

try this:

Goto: Start/Control Panel/Add-Remove programs/MSAS
then click on support info!!!
Then click on repair!

Hi Tom,
Thanks but that didn't change anything. I first closed the MS AS so it
wasn't running and then repaired it by re-installing the way you outlined.
Still have the same pop-ups as before. Anything else to try?

If you have the CD for "Back up Dell Installed programs", you could install
this from the original CD, and, if you really have no use for it, you can
then uninstall it. Going through this cycle will remove the problem.

Alternatively, you can get the Windows Installer Cleanup tool:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;290301

Install this, run it, and look for something which is the application
represented by the prompt you are seeing. You can then remove the installer
information for this app, and that will remove the message.

I would then uninstall the cleanup tool--it shouldn't be needed on any
routine basis, and there's some risk to leaving it around.

Hello Bill,

did you see Bill Sanderson's message?
Did you try that?

Tom,
Yes I did read and try Bill Sanderson's suggestion this evening. I elected
to download the Windows Installer Clean-up Program. I deleted the Back:up
Dell-Instaled Programs from the program data base. It worked. I can now open
the MSAS clean. Thanks for your help. I will answer Bill Sanderson also.

You're welcome! This particular conflict--Microsoft Antispyware and the
Dell utility you reference is fairly common in this beta--but I've also seen
the same issue between Adobe Reader, and a Microsoft download that allows
PC's to display Tablet handwritten documents.
