opening Internet explorer error

When I open ie I get an error message stating "internet
explorer cannot open the internet site http://....
operation aborted".
The site is open behind this pop up message, but I am
forced to click "ok" and then it takes me to the "page
cannot be displayed". I click "back" and most of the
time the page loads fine after this. help?
