When I open a .htm file an error message appears that
says " Can not find file C;\Documents and
Settings\xxxxxx\desktop\Overature.htm". behind this
message it the display of the named file, in this case the
home page of overature which I "save as" to the desktop.
Any thoughts on how to get rid of this false open error??
Thank you.

Try this:
Goto Control Panel then Add/Remove Programs then click on "Set Program
Access and Defaults" if "Custom" is selected Click the down arrow and make
sure that Internet Explorer (if that's the browser you want to use) is
selected as the default web browser and that 'Enable access to this program'
is checked.
Or else if you prefer, a simpler way you can select 'Microsoft Windows'
instead of 'Custom"

Hope that helps!
