opening folders stalls

Anyone have this odd problem: when I open up any folder, it's as if the
computer has to try 5 times before it will open. It sort of stutters 5
times for about a second each and then the folder finally opens.
Any help is appreciated.

Hi, Mark.

Could be a hard drive going bad. Maybe just a single bad spot, but you said
"any folder".
