opening files

Have WindowsXP and if I double left click on a folder the folder will not
open and the search window appears. Folders can still be opened right
clicking then selecting open but why will they not open on the left? Have
looked in Control panel-Mouse as well as folder options but cant solve the
problem.

Any suggestions??
