When I open an Excel or Word file from Windows Explorer and new session of
Excel or Word is started instead of opening the file in the existing session.
I just changed computers and my old one did not do this but I can't
remember how to change it.

How do I change Windows to open files in an existing session of a program
instead of starting a new session of the program

To turn on Single Document Interface (SDI) in Microsoft Office 2003
applications Tools|Options|View and check "Windows in Taskbar". In either
case there is only one instance application's executable running. Task
Manager|Processes will confirm this.
