opening e-mail document

I am trying to open an attachmenton my e-mail, I get a message that tells me
I have a dialog box open and I need to close that dialog box to continue.
What does this mean, and how can I get the attachemnt open?
 
It means that there is a dialogue box [system message window] that is in need
of attention and that you need to close that dialog box to continue
