i am not able to open downloads with wordperfect. it asks me to choose the program with which the file was made but I never know what it is. How can i do this? am i better off getting a different program? if so, which on
thanks

What downloads are you trying to open in word perfect? Word perfect will
only open text files and word perfect files. Were the files your trying to
open created in word perfect or another program? Usually you have to use the
program that created then to open them.

Ask the people who send you attachments to tell you in the
body of their email what program they used to write the
file. If you are downloading from an website it should say
somewhere on the page.

If the file is a word processor file and you OPEN WP first
and then browse to the file you want to open, WP should be
able to identify and open the file. If the file is not a
word type document but a spreadsheet or database, try
whatever program that is the proper type.

Do you know what applications you have on your computer? If
you tell us, you can get better advice.

No, not so. If you install the correct filters, WordPerfect can
open many types of word processing files, including Microsoft
Word .doc files, .rtf files, etc.

When he says he is "not able to open downloads with wordperfect,"
that's certainly very suspicious. Not many of the files most
people would download are in any word processing format.

In most cases, you can tell by the file's extension, the last
three characters of the file name. For example, WordPerfect files
usually have a .wpd extension. For more help, post the extensions
of a few of the files you're trying to open.

Just thought, he may be using Outlook Express or Outlook and
doesn't know about security blocking potentially harmful
attachments? If that is his problem (and he did say he was
getting a choose program pop-up) he can fix that in Tools
/Options/security.

Oh geez........... give me a break here. We all know that. I was simply
telling the op the file needed to a word processing document of some sort.
It's obvious they are a beginner so I didn't want to confuse them. We all
know word processors open many types of word processing files, and I saw no
need to confuse the op more with all the available extensions it can open.
Ever hear of KISS (keep it simple stupid). That's what I was going for here,
trying to get more info out of the op with confusing them more. Most newbies
realate text files to word processors.

My point exactly. I thought that's bascily what I said. It has to a word
processing doc to open it in a word processing program.

OK, sorry. I wasn't trying to be insulting; I just wanted to
clarify a statement that I thought might confuse the OP.

Of course. But there's a fine line between too much information
and not enough. You and I wanted to draw it in a different place.
