Opening Compressed Files

I am not able to open folders that have been compressed with Alzip and other zip utilities. Typically there is an error message saying that the folders are invalid or corrupted, or that the zip utility doesn't recognize the zipped folder even though the sender used the same utility to create it.

Recently a technician reformatted my hard drive and reinstalled Windows XP. Since then I've not been able to work with zipped files.

What can I do to enable my computer to recognize and open zipped files?

After the technician reformatted the drive and installed XP, has either you
installed any other programs, like.. for example alzip??
Or any other utility? As they got lost when the disk was formatted, they
have to be installed again....

Yes, the Alzip utility is installed and appears to be operating normally.
