Opening and saving office files from IE

I work in a large general purpose computing lab and a major issue we have
been having is people opening office documents from thier email and editing
them without saving to the local computer. What seems to be happening is they
will keep hitting save throughout the time they are working which saves to
the temp file in the internet explorer cache which then is lost when they
shut down the program.

So I guess what I am wondering is if there is a way to:

a) Disable the option to open the files from ie
or
b) Make all the files the user opens read-only so that they are forced to
save it to their local machine
or
c)Keep the temp file from being destroyed so at least one our lab assistants
can recover the file.

Any insights would be apprecitated.
thanks

Hi,
My first choice would be to have DOC or XLS or other office files not open
in IE:
162059 - How to Configure Internet Explorer to Open Office Documents in the
Appropriate Office Program Instead of in IE:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=162059

Clearing the cache each time IE closes is a good privacy measure. If you
decide to reverse this, it's at Internet Options> Advanced> Security...
Empty Temporary Internet Files when browser is closed.

I've helped people with this very problem. Most of them learned fairly
quickly to save the attachment before editing it. ;-)

Hope this helps,
Don
