Further to my previous question. I am using MS Ofice Professional 2003 with
Word 2003. I can open a new docyument in Word and save however, my Acer
Aspire 5000 laptop then saves it in wordpad. When opened again, it is opened
in wordpad.

Can you open the documents in Word if you start Word first? If so, then
they're Word documents. Do they have the .doc file extension? If so, then
they're still Word documents. If the only reason you think they're WordPad
files is that they have a WordPad file icon, then the file associations are
the problem.

Hi Snowgoose:

If the files are in fact .doc files, right click the file, select "Open
With" then "Choose Program..." Highlight Word, check the "Always use the
select program to open this kind of file," and click "OK."

If the files are .rtf files, you can also use the above method, but that
doesn't fully solve your problem. In that case, you will have to change the
default file format back to .doc. I don't remember where that option is in
Word 2003, but I would check under File | Preferences or Tools | Options.

Reregistering Word per the instructions in the referenced article should
have repaired the file associations, so I don't know why it didn't work for
you.
