OPENING A TEMPLATE IN WORD 97

If you know nothing about the code, don't want it, don't care, then: press
Alt-F11 to switch to VBA. Find the template in the project window (top
left). Expand to display the modules. Right-click, delete.

I would operate on a copy of your template or keep a backup, just in case
there is something you want.
