OPEN WITH problem....

Hello,

- 2 questions:

I have 3GB or RAM installed on fresh XP. Virtual memory is set up by
default:

custom size:
initial size 2046
maximum size: 4092

Are these values fine for 3GB or RAM?

- Second question:

In good old win 2000 I could open .PHP files with Internet Explorer without
any problem (or installed server), now in XP, right click and open with IE,
nothing happens. Anybody knows whats wrong?!

Thanks!

The initial size is way larger than necessary. But other than that it wastes
some hard drive space, it doesn't really hurt you. If you want, you can cut
it down to around 2MB.

Im no expert on this subject but with 3GB of RAM I DON'T belive you will ever
see the popup "Windows is low on virtual memory, windows is increasing VM
size limit".

You can always increase the size if you think you'll be running memory
hungry apps (like Photo/Audio/Movie editors) which is just a precaution and
not a neccesity, otherwise I think your RAM will be fine. Turn off executive
paging so you can utilize the full extent of your RAM.

Its not a big deal really, As Ken and I said (in our own ways) that you won't
need the full extent of the pagefile system and it will 'VIP' a section of
your hard disk for memory that you probably won't use.

If you need that space for storage then cut down your pagefile limit as Ken
suggested. If your HDD size is big then just leave it alone. Windows XP will
let you know if you need more virtual memory and will collect more
automatically.
