Open With ALWAYS appears

I have Windows XP Home Editon and everytime I try to open a MPEG file OPEN
WITH appears to choose a program. I select the program and check off Always
use this Program but the next time I try to open a MPEG file again the same
thing happens.
I have Windows Media Player 6.5 as my default and don't want to use Windows
Media Player 9.0 or any other.It worked before and I don't know why suddenly
this is happenpng.

In Windows Explorer go to Tools/Folder Options/File Types. Scroll down to
mpeg, select Change and modify.

I had tried that, I even changed the AVI and WMV files to Media Player 6.5
Still not working properly.

I had the same problem, no idea what triggered it but the procedure below fixed it. This uses the default player which you don't want to do, but I think you can work around that (see details below).

Go to File Types
Select the file type
Press Restore button if it is present
Press Advanced
Select Play option
Press Edit
Uncheck DDE

I then pressed OK and the file type (wmv in my case) opened in WMP9 without the Open With dialog. If you want to use WMP6.5 you could try editing the command line to run 6.5 instead of 9.
