Open Web Site

Anna Sepeda

I am running Windows XP, FrontPage 2003 and the frontpage extensions are
installed.

Here's my problem:
When I open site in FrontPage, and I type in my web address
http://webaddress.com , it has me log into my web site and all the files are
there and they are fine, but when I go to my Network Places and look at my
folder www.webaddress.com, the folder is empty. Has anyone ever seen this
happen before. I know this function works because I have other web sites
listed and the files are shown in the folder.

Thanks for your help.

As advice goes, this is pretty generic, but have you
tried deleting and then recreating the Network Place?

Sometimes a configuration or password change on the
server will stop these pointers from working until you
recreate them.

Jim,

Thanks for answering me. I tried deleting it and recreating and that didn't
work. I even shut down the system, restarted, nothing seems to work. It
really is the strangest thing considering it has always worked for me
before.

I called Bell South (where we host the site) and they seem to think it is a
bug on my end....of course. I can FTP into the site but when I try to
download the files to the network place folder, it asks "do I want to
overwrite the same files that are already there." I even said yes at one
time and it appeared to be copying something for a minute then it just
stopped. I opened the folder and again it is blank. I have other ways of
updating the site, through the browser with FrontPage, FTP, etc....it's
really a matter of me being somewhat bent on figuring out why it doesn't
work correctly.

If you have any other ideas, please let me know.

Thanks,

Anna

Anna,

The Network Folder is just a shortcut to the actual location of the
resource.

What is that you are trying to accomplish, publish a copy of the live site
back to your local machine or publish from your local machine to the live
site.

In general it is best to open the web directly in FP via the File Menu |
Open Web command, and second best via IE and then File Menu | Edit with FP
command.

When you right-click on the shortcut in Network Neighborhood and
choose Properties, what value appears in the Target field?

Anna,

Personally, I always use FP's File Menu | Open Web command, I never use
Network Places. Once you have login to the site, via FP, you have to click
the Open button to actual see your web content, as the first dialog that you
see after logging just shows the folders within the web.
