Open Office and Microsoft Works

How can I get my browser to choose the spread sheet from Open Office instead
of Microsoft Works' when trying to open an XLS file?
As it stands the latter automatically opens it.
Windows Vista Home Premium SP2, 32 bit and IE 8.

The reason: the file doesn't open properly as is, IOW a calendar shows up in
sections of four and incomplete as such.
TIA,

Harry.

Try using the right-click Open with menu, select Choose default, check
the "Always use..." box, and then browse to and select Open Office.

You get what you pay for.

True enough. I happen to like both MS Office and OpenOffice.org. If
you've got the bucks to buy Office or if you need complex
documents/spreadsheets/databases that's the way to go.
Open Sores software is free, created by rebellious, teenagis style
enthusiasm.
Therefore it's garbage unfoit for commercial, or moreover - mission
critical application.

I certainly wouldn't call OpenOffice.org garbage. And it hasn't crashed
on me yet.
if you're of different opinion, that's fine.

Thank you.
Get yourself Open Sores mouse as well - it's got 17 buttins taylored to
operate Open Office.

OOo works fine with my MS wireless mouse!
Keep clicking!

Stan, you could use a spell checker...<vbg>

Gene,
you are the only poster to answer my question directly and quite
constructively, I might add. The previous posters indulged in following
their own 'fantasies' about so-called 'open sores'. What a fiasco there.
Thank you very much.

You're welcome.

Indeed, there are some posters in this group that consistently do as
you said. Just stick to the signal and avoid the noise. BTW, I
sometimes read those posts (or at least scan them quickly), and I see
that sometimes even the trolls provide helpful info.

There are also some sock puppets who pretend to be some honest posters.

Also -if you hate puns, you'll probably believe that I also contribute
to the noise on occasion :)

At the time I had not tried it yet, but it worked like a charm.
I am sure glad I asked.

I never waste my feelings in this fashion and on occasion actually favor
them, but this group seems to be deteriorating with many good names so
obviously missing. Is that because of a migration to Windows 7?

Just keep up the good work...
