Open Minimized Programs not in taskbar

I have researched and everyone says I am supposed to have a virus that
causes this. I have looked for the files, registry entries, etc.,
that supposedly contain the virus. I have also used my virus checker
AVG. I can find no trace of the virus, no files, nothing. I have
sized and resized my taskbar, locked and unlocked it, etc. I cannot
find the simply obvious solution to restore my minimized items to the
task bar. ANY help is appreciated. Again, I have no evidence of the
Friendly Greetings virus. A system restore to the previous day did
not help either - and it was working fine then! It just went away.

Thanks.

There are many viruses that cause this, not just one.

Some viruses are polymorphic, that is, they're different on every computer
making them harder to detect. Also, some disable your antivirus software.

For now, alt+tab should work, but of course that's inconvienient, it's just
a temporary fix

System restore is, IMNSHO, crap. It only restores windows settings, nothing
else such as files. Therefore it leads people like you to believe that it
will turn back the clock on your computer, when it will not. Get Roxio
GoBack, which is bundled with Norton SystemWorks. It's a ton better.

Anyways, I would recommend getting a third-party scan. If you have a high
speed internet connection you could get an online scan. These are very
helpful. Also check symantec.com for any "virus removal tools" dealing with
the Friendly Greetings virus. They are specifically designed to remove that
virus, and are therefore almost guaranteed to work.

To reply replace nospam.com with cox dot net.

P.S. If you really needed to know and didn't want to look at
www.acronymfinder.com, IMNSHO means "In my not so humble opinion"

Is your virus definition up to date?

Yes. There was no evidence of any virus on the computer. Believe me.
I wanted it to be the virus. That would have been easy to fix.

Solution (hopefully it will work for you)

I had the exact same problem on two of my computers over the years running Windows XP! It was not a virus, you are right, I don't know exacly what went wrong, but there is this program that fixed it for me on both computers. Try clicking the "Minimized Programs Missing" link on http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/taskbarplus!.htm. I hope it works for you!
