Open link in new window and javascript open window not working. Any ideas??

Hello everyone,
I've entered into a dilemma. This morning my IE was fine. In my early
morning surfing I went into several sites that not only had multitudes of
pop-ups but a lot of spywares as well. Afterwards I had run a windows update
and gotten a few newer critical updates, and some drivers. In going back
into my IE this afternoon though I have noticed that now the "Open link in
new window" right-click option does nothing upon selecting it. Likewise any
links with a javascript open.window link do not open the window. I am on an
HP Pavillion, using XP Home and the pre installed IE 6 which was as current
as possible. I have been unable to locate the repair utility for IE in the
Add/Remove progs. I've tried several things so far via links found in
searching, but no luck yet. Does anybody have any ideas?? Much appreciated.

Did you re-boot after installing the patches?
If so and the problem persists here is the run command to launch the
Internet Explorer Repair utility.

rundll32 setupwbv.dll,IE6Maintenance

Copy and paste the above into the Run dialog (Start\Run menu option)
