Open file from word processor

I have a document or letter using home edition XP that
will not open at the recipient. It is coming as the name
of the document.wps

How do I change this to probably read .doc? Do you have
to do it with each document? Any help would be
appreciated.

What application did you create the document in? .doc is used by MS Word and
Wordpad.
 
Is this document coming in to you, or are you sending it out?
 
Windows has no support for wps files. WPS files are a windows works file. You both need to have the same program. Use Wordpad to ensure others can read.
