Open file does not list all files including input text

In Word 2000 when you input text and Enter you are provided with a list of
all files which include that text - so enter a name and all files with that
name are displayed.

In newer versions (2002 etc) that method of searching does not seem to be
available - it seems that you need to put in the full file name or select the
one offered in the input box by Word as you type.

Am I missing something here? Do I need to be ticking a box somewhere to have
teh W2000 search facility without going into the Search section and entering
a number of and/or options?

Put asterisks before and after the partial file name. For example, to
display files "John Jones.doc" and "Mary Jones.doc", enter *Jones* in the
box.

I don't know why someone at Microsoft thought this was an improvement. :-(

Thanks Jay

As you say the solution is a workaround of a defeaturing (my new word of the
day!) by Microsoft of a very useful facility.
