OPEN DIALOG BOX ERROR

T

TORLAV

In Outlook 2007 - it will not allow me to create a new mail message. An
error message comes up that states "A dialog box is open. Please close it
and try again." However, there are no open dialog boxes. Also, once I open
outlook, it not allow me to shut down - as if I must close the dialog box
before exiting. E-mail is receiving fine and "Test Account" does not show
any issues.

Start Word and see if the dialogue box will display. Fill it in if it does,
then try Outlook.

First off - thank you much for the feedback.

FYI, I started Word and there is no open dialog box. I am still get the
same error message in outlook, I am unable to create new mail and also cannot
exit outlook without going to Task manager and ending task. Any more
suggestions?

When you get that error message about an open dialog box, can you minimize all programs to the taskbar and see if there is something that popped up in the background? Also, do you happen to have Plaxo installed?

I had the same error. This was my resolution:

1) kill the Outlook Process
2) click Start > Run and type "outlook /safe" (no quotes)
A dailog box about RSS feeds came up and I answered it.
3) I opened a new email, exited it and then exited Outlook.
4) I restarted Outlook normally (through the start menu icon)
Everything has worked fine since.

I am still having the same problem after performing all that was suggested.
I do not have Plaxo installed and I have no problems with word. Any
information would be helpful.

Thanks in advance

I had the same problem and followed Milly's advice.

I got this error message running Outllook 2007.
Just a note - I had to kill Outlook running in safe mode as well.
When I restarted in normal mode I now saw the "Outlook Business Contact
Manager"
Wizard. I went through the wizard and was able to continue fine after that.

Thanks for the advice.

A recent Outlook patch has affected fuctionality for new users. When
you try
to configure Outlook for new users, a dialog box pops up asking you
to
confirm the user's name. Problem is, the box disappears so quickly you
cannot
click through it. From then on, Outlook will not work, claiming an
open and
unfindable dialog box.

The fix is either to open something like Word and confirm the dialog
box, or
to uninstall the patch.
