Open Comm Error

I

I.J. Lee

I used Winfax under Win2K. Once in a while, when I tried to
send fax using Winfax I encountered "Open Comm Error" and
cannot open COM1 where my modem connected. At this moment
I also cannot use other telephone dialer program to send
the command to the same moden unless I re-start the PC.

Does anyone know what is happenning? Is there any way to
find out "WHO" occupied the COM1 that moment?

Thanks.

So, you are using WinFaxPro software and not native Windows Fax, correct?

In case you are not aware of, Windows 2000 comes with Fax Software, which
helps you in sending and receiving faxes.

When you get the error, if you run "mode com1" - what does it show?

The first thing is Com 1 is used by the mouse so change
the port in modem properties

cannot open com 1 win2k

I have been playing with this problem all day, can't seem to get com 1 to recognize my gps in Delorme or a dos program i sometimes use.

I have 2 thinkpads identical, one has a bad lcd so i plug it into a monitor to check this problem. The GPS works ok there.
maybe this is the same basic problem
I suspect a Bios setting but do not know how to get into it.
