open .chm in a *.chm* folder

E

Eman

I dbl-click on a chm-file lying in a folder with the name like
<any>.chm<any> (e.g. C:\MyFolder.chmXX). I get HH' instance with
"Action canceled" and the standard "File Download" dialog with
Open/Save/Cancel buttons. When i click "Open", i get next HH'
instance with the same dialog, and so on. The folder resides on
a local disk volume. There is no more problem when i rename the
folder removing ".chm" from its name.

What is this?
The effect was originated by some of windows updates.
I've test that in two XP Sp2 machines.

Hi

Open Windows Explorer and go to Tools>Folder Options>File Types. Scroll
down the list to CHM, select it and then click on 'Advanced'. What do you
see highlighted? Then please click on 'Edit' - what you see in all the
panes there? Please don't change anything.

Here are registry settings. The only shell\open is defined.

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.chm]
@="chm.file"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\chm.file]
@="???????????????? HTML-???? ???????" ;just a local name
"EditFlags"=dword:00000000

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\chm.file\DefaultIcon]
@="D:\\WINDOWS\\hh.exe,0"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\chm.file\shell\open\command]
@="\"D:\\WINDOWS\\hh.exe\" %1"

Be sure this is not W.E. because there is the same result
when i run the command line from the pure command prompt:
hh.exe C:\MyFolder.chmXX\MyFile.chm
