Open a Word 2k3 Document in Word 2000

At work I am required to use Word 2000 in order to support some older
applications that do not work with later versions of word.

Occasionally, I have the need to open up Word 2k3 documents. I've been
having people save them as Word 2000 documents and re-send them to me,
or doing it myself on another machine.

Can I get Word 2000 to directly open a Word 2k3 document? I have to be
able to edit them, so I can install the Word 2k3 viewer, but can I cut
and pase into Word 2000 from the viewer?

I don't understand all the fuss? You can open Word 2003 docs in Word 2000.
What you should probably be doing is on the 2003 machines: Tools-->Options,
Save tab.
