Oops! My laptop won't boot now...

Cleaned out some apps in the startup list us MSConfig, and now my laptop no
longer boots. I checked each app on www.sysinfo.org, and everything seemed
to be optional or not required, but I must have missed something.

The only message I'm getting, after an incredibly long delay, relates to the
file ntoskrnl.exe in the system32 folder. I was able to boot using my OS CD,
and discovered that this file actually does exist in that folder, so I'm not
sure why it's not working. One of the options in the OS CD booting option
was to restore to a previous good configuration (I assume similar to the
Windows restore point feature), but it didn't seem to do anything.

Any suggestions?

Did it boot to safe mode?
If so, use "System Restore" (instead of that "last Known Good" during the
text portion of startup) to restore the system to a date before the change
occurred.
