Try Dragging it back, then short cut it to desktop.

But of course I tried dragging it back. The "All Programs" window
disappears as soon as you click on any icon from the main window
desktop..

I'd just like to get it listed back in "All Programs".

Drag it over the Start button, wait a second or so, Start menu will
appear, hover over All Programs, wait a second, menu will open, etc.

Either use explorer to copy and paste the shortcut back or drag it from
desktop and hold cursor over start button, after a short delay the start
button will open, then still holding the left button down and dragging the
icon, move cursor over all programs and hold until it opens, then drag to
where you want the shortcut to go.

Go to: www.freshdevices.com
Download "FreshUI". It is free.
Once the program is downloaded. Open it.
Go to Explorer/File settings and double click on
"Any Files Context Menu". In the right window double click
on any line, a new window will open and check the two
lower lines
"Show "Copy to folder..."" and "Show "Move to folder..."".
With these added to your right click drop down menu you
can move anything to anywhere. Or copy anything to anywhere
Once you use this option you will miss it if you ever lose
it. You will probly never use the drag and drop features
again.
This also works well when burning something on CD or
floppy.

This can be done with a simple regsitry edit if you don't want to install a
program to do it.
Be warned, there are small side effects when using the below registry
entries, but IMHO, the benefits out way the small bug.

Copy and past the text into notepad and save as copy.reg and move.reg then
click them to install.

Copy To:

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AllFilesystemObjects\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\Copy To]
@="{C2FBB630-2971-11D1-A18C-00C04FD75D13}"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AllFilesystemObjects\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\Move To]

If you have problems with these edits and need to uninstall them, you can
copy and paste the below text into notepad and save as copymoveundo.reg

Copy To & Move To - Uninstall:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

Thanks guys. It worked just fine. I thought I had tried putting it
over the start button before, but I guess I didn't wait.

And the icon also stayed in my start desktop screen so I don't even
have to make a shortcut.

Why do all that and maybe screw your system up? When a
simple small program, that is easy to use, would do it much
safer.

I don't see how it would be safer. A program can screw things up just as
easy as a user can. I know the reg edit works, I don't know this program
works, so I thought I'd give another option.
Why install another program your gonna use once and never use again. Add the
reg edit and be done with it. This also makes sure way there's no chance of
trojans, adware and spyware(although the site says there is none).
To each his own..........

Since I have no Windows XP book (XP came on the system), and I
didn't search before I tried this, I made a little booboo.
Nothing big at all, everything still works.

I was trying to get the Windows Media Player icon into my regular
main screen. I went into start/All Programs, then clicked on it
and dragged it into my main screen. That worked - the icon is
now in my main screen and can be launched from there.

However, it is now not listed in my "All Programs". I want it
listed there too like it was.

I have since easily figured out how to create a short- cut icon
and put whatever icon in the main screen, without messing up like
I just described. But I cannot figure out how to get Windows
Media Player listed again in 'All Programs". Any suggestions?

Try Dragging it back, then short cut it to desktop.

But of course I tried dragging it back. The "All Programs" window
disappears as soon as you click on any icon from the main window
desktop..

I'd just like to get it listed back in "All Programs".

To the original poster:

Drag the entry from your desktop and hover over the Start button, then over
All Programs. Done deal.
