Windows XP SP2 installed. Applications like Access can print "Best" quality,
but MS Word 2003 only prints "Draft" quality regardless of properties
setting. Printer is HP PSC 500. Windows XP seems to have trouble with the
driver installation. I have followed all the instructions from HP for the XP
driver installation. (Far from plug-n-play) Can't roll driver back (its
date 2001 anyway) Can't seem to get update driver to locate a driver in
either the driver cache or on the CD-ROM. If the drivers are removed
(1284.4) they will re-install automatically but add hardware continues and
fails on what might be additional drivers?

If spooling is turned off at the printer control panel, then the print
quality works. Is there a way to fix the print spooling so that it works
correctly?

The problem was fixed by turning off the "Use Advanced Printer Features" in
the Printer properties.
