Only 3 out of 5 links in link bar work.

Almost completed my first website. Has 5 pages. Put a link bar on all 5,
but only 3 links work. Have checked hyperlinks in website and everything
looks like it should be functioning. How do I make them all work?

The website has not yet been published. It is still in FrontPage, and when I
open a page and click preview, 2 of the 3 links won't work. If you want a
URL, doesn't it have to be in the website on the Internet.

Yes, and you may have to be online as well if you are testing a link to an
online website (with the links that are not working for you)

What are the non-working links to? Are they online or are they local, if
they're local are they to pages/images/files that exist within your web?

Are you testing your web by File | Preview in Browser?

Thanks for your consideration of this problem. I am currently trying to
finish the website in FrontPage 2003. It is the first website I am doing for
another business. It has 5 pages and the link bar is just for the purpose of
navigating through the pages of the website, which I assume you call local.
I want people to be able to go from any page in the website directly to any
other page.

I am testing the links while in FrontPage. I open a page, then click
preview, then click a link. 3 of them consistently work, 2 of them never
work.

I installed the link bar in FP by going through Insert > Navigation > Insert
Web Component > Link Bars > Bar with custom links. I added links for all
pages in link bar properties box on all 5 pages.

When I go to FP and open Web Site, then click Navigation button at the
bottom and both the pages of the website and the link bar with links are
illustrated. When I check Web Site and then the Hyperlinks button, it shows
the 4 pages coming from the home page and things going in all directions -
everything looks good. I also checked the address of each page in the Link
Bar Properties box under Modify Link and everything looks correct there.

I am getting confused and can't figure this one out. I would appreciate any
help.

Don't use Preview.

Open FP
File | Open Site (open your local web) "local" meaning on your machine not
the online web server

Then,
File | Preview in Browser
see if your links work then.

Once I opened the web site and used Preview in Browser, the links work
better, but not yet completely.

I opened up the web site using Open Site and then opened each of the 5 pages
individually. The 5 pages are basically home, p2, p3, p4 and p5. When I
open home and p2, I get the Information bar at the top stating that the file
is restricted from showing the active content... Before, it was home and p2
that would not work at all. Now they work with each other, back and forth,
and on either of them you can go to any of the other pages, but you can't go
back to home or p2 from the other pages (p3, p4, or p5). The information bar
comes up on home and p2, but none of the other pages.

Works better? A link works or it doesn't work; what do you mean it works
better?

Somethings may not work on your local web, just publish it to your online
webserver then post the URL for more help.

I have 5 pages - home, p2, p3, p4 and p5. Before, home and p2 would not link
to each other in either direction. They would both link to p3, p4 and p5,
but you could not go back from p3, p4, or p5 to home or p2. Now home and
page 2 will link to each other in both directions and you can also link them
to p3, p4 and p5, but only in one direction. For example, I can be in home,
link to p3, but then not be able to link back to home. I can link from home
to p2 and then back or p2 to home and then back. Home and p2 would not link
at all before.

When I go through Preview in Browser, home and p2 are the only pages where
the information bar comes up and basically says the file is restricted from
showing the active contact. None of the other pages do that. Is that part
of the problem?

Dunno. I stopped using FPs generated navigation stuff a few years back
because they can be confusing and limiting once you need more than basic
navigation.

Post the URL so others may help on this.

Per your previous message, I published the website, tried it out , and the
links are all working fine there. Thank you for your help - you were of more
