How do I turn off Windows Update? And how do i find any
other programs that might be running in the background.
I've turned off my virus scan and have it scheduled for a
specific time and day.

Hi,

To turn off the background applications and programs, follow these steps:
1. Click Start.
2. Click Run.
3. Type MSCONFIG in the box provided next to "Open:"
4. Click OK.
5. Click Startup Tab.
6. Click Disable All Button.
7. Click Apply.
8. Click OK.
9. Restart the Computer.

To turn off Windows Update, follow these steps:
1. Click Start and choose Run.
2. Type services.msc
3. Right-click the Automatic Updates Service option.
4. Choose Stop

This will disable the automatic windows updates option in the system.

In case the problem persists, download the attached registry file
(AUOFF.reg) to the desktop and then double click the file to perform the
registry modifications.
