Screen Resalutions: 800 x 600 too big for my tastes. 1024 x 768 too small for
my tastes.Tried hacking the registry to set up this size 912 x 884 but
doesn't seem to work, it reverts back to the common settings. How can I have
a 912 x 884 screen resalution I desire, Thanks in advance, M.C. & a H.N.Y.

Hi.

I dont have a reply as to get that resolution (I think it is hardware
dependant on the adapter and screen) but I have achieved acceptable results
via other means:

In XP you can set the exact size of icons.. you can resize them as you see
fit and even emulate 1600x1200 on a 800x600 screen. Also all the fonts are
customisable. Font settings also propagate all to child objects as you office
etc. And if you need a medium resolution for a game or some fullscreen
application then they wouldn't probably support the windows 'hacked'
resolution anyways.

Good luck,
Tarmo

It depends on what your video card and monitor support. Mine has nothing
between 800 x 600 and 1024 x 768.

another person trying to set object sizes by changing screen resolutions,
this is just another per peeve. my advice is to always set the screen
resolution to the highest setting, then adjust the display properties.

go to display properties, the 'appearance' tab, at the bottom, click
'advanced'. this bring's up a dialog box in which you can set the sizes of
windows UI elements individually. the pictures at the top of the screen can
be clicked on to change the setting's for the one's shown in the picture.
there is also a dropdown box for items not shown in the graphic, like the
menu font/size and the desktop icon size. funny thing about this is that
some of the item's in the box affect other element's as well. for example,
when you change the size of the 'caption buttons', the min/max/close at the
top of every window, this change also affects the size of the icons shown
in the system tray.

it may take just a little bit of time to do it this way, but the result's
with the higher screen resolution are MUCH more acceptable to the eye.

It is a matter for the video card, and the resolutions it supports as
hardware. Go to Display - Settings, click Advanced, on the Monitor page
uncheck 'Hide modes monitor cannot display', then on Adapter page click
'List All Modes' and see what it can provide. 912x884 is very unlikely.
1024x768 is probably best hope - a very standard resolution
