Hi There,

A friend of mine has a network problem on one particular PC. This is a new
PC only 6 months old. When this PC accesses the shared drive on the network,
things seem to really slow down on that particular PC. E.g. When opening a
document in Word that is stored on the shared drive it seems to take
forever, however, other PC's on the same network do not have this problem.
In some cases the PC's that run faster our older then the PC that is going
slow.

Examples of slowness is that when Word starts and you click on File menu, it
will take a good long while for that file menu to appear.

Can anyone think of reasons why this might be occurring on and what actions
I
should take to try and improve things?

The particular machine in question is running Windows XP.

Thanks in advance.

Kind regards,

Dave

Try running anti-virus and adware finders.
Also defraging the drive may be needed, although I find this to be need
only rarely.

Dave,

See if this helps:

Files on network shares open slowly, opens as read-only, or you receive an error message:
