One PC keeps droppoing connection....GRRRRRR

Hi there -

I run a small office network, one server and half a dozen PCs. It's running
fine, except that one of the PCs keeps dropping its connection to the
network, maybe two or three times a day. It then won't reconnect unless I
reboot, when it reconnects perfectly.

Any ideas why? Using DHCP.....and all machines on XP.

Many thanks!

XP disconnection issue

1. Try to disable autodisconnection feature first.
2. If disabling autoconnection doesn't fix the problem and other workstations don't have the same issue, check the hardware settings, for example, configure the computer' network cards for half duplex. Most Hubs don't support full duplex.

There could be quite a number of answers to that one but the first thing
that I usually check is the properties of the NIC on that particular
machine. If it is set to allow the NIC to be powered down when "not in use",
it can cause loss of networking.

The other thing that may be causing this is if you are using Zone Alarm.
There is an option called "Automatic Lock" in ZA and ZA Pro that allows all
networking to be locked off after a set time of inactivity. Unfortunately,
Zonelabs haven't seen fit to fix this option as yet. What it can do is lock
your machine no matter if you set it on or off, at the time set which is, by
default, 10 minutes. You have to set the lock on, change it to the maximum
of 999 minutes and set it off again to overcome that for now UNTIL they
deign to fix it.
