Help troubleshoot wired vs vpn connection

P

Paul Proefrock

I have a small peer to peer network that works fine. I have a dozen "Network
Places" that all connect and browse as they should.

When I go remote, I try to connect from one machine to another via Windows
XP Pro vpn. The connection is made but only two of the dozen shared folders
show up??

Why would only two show via VPN yet 12 when hardwired?

Example: I am currently hard connected and Folders "A" and "B" are a network
place and browsable. When I go remote, Folder "B" is browsable, Folder "A"
does not show up. When I return and reconnect to the LAN, both folders once
again are accessible.

ideas on how to correct?

Both systems are XP Pro /SP2

thanks

That is the confusing part. I can browse and ping without a problem. I have program that sync's Outlook PST files and it needs a specific shared folder to carry out that action.

When I am on the LAN, the folder appears without a problem. It's qualified path is \\DESKTOP\OsaSync\OsaSync_Data\ (the actual folder exists in the C:\Program Files\Osasync and is set to share)

When I go remote and try to use my VPN that shared folder and others similar disappear. I then can only browse a couple of the document folders I've set up as shares.

I checked with the program developer and he feels it is a Windows issue. If I use the full qualified name on the VPN, I get an error message that I am not allowed access to that file. If I use that same path when connected to the LAN, it displays without a hitch.

Shouldn't a VPN and a LAN be the same except maybe slower due to transmission time

???
